Internet has become a daily commodity for families. Children need it to do their homework while parents use it for business or paying bills. Buying a cable modem router is actually an investment for your home.
Why use a cable modem router at home
Having a cable modem router will address your daily needs. Whether you have a family or live alone, the Internet gives access to the rest of the world. Schools use it to communicate homework and help parents keep track of their kids’ educational progress. Young adults who live far away from home need the net to catch up with friends and family back home. Unlike other Internet providers, a cable modem router is fast. You won’t have to wait hours to get the latest information.
What to look for in a cable modem router for your home
If your home is large and has several people residing in it, a wireless cable modem router is recommended. Users won’t have to go through the hassle of connecting it with a wire. Smaller homes vulnerable to blocked signals should get a wire cable modem router. Since space is minimal, you can limit the connection to a cable. Look for a modem router made by reliable computer companies. Their quality will ensure less repairs and easy fusion with the Internet.
Cable modem routers make Internet access convenient and easy for any home. The wide use of the Internet makes looking for routers easy. Cheap deals are usually offered by electronic and/or computer stores.

Cable modem routers are used in many homes and businesses for quick Internet access. They enable fast connections among many computers in one area. The cable modem enables more computers to have the same Internet access. Traffic is directed to more than one computer, allowing more people Internet access.
Wired cable modem routers
Computers need to be connected to the wired cable modem router using Ethernet cabling. Wired routers have the fastest speeds and are the most secure. The downside is the cable used connected to the computer, limiting space and movement for laptops. Cables usually have to extend throughout the building or home. Cable routers are recommended for office set ups that use desktop computers.
Wireless cable modem routers
Wireless cable modem routers take up less space. The laptop or computer does not have to connected to the router itself. As long as it’s within the router’s range, it can pick up the Internet signal. Unfortunately, its easy access allows unwanted users to chance upon the connection. You can avoid security breaches by placing a password to the wireless Internet access. Wireless is recommended for personal homes and businesses that use laptops.
Cable modem routers allow for convenient Internet access in large areas. Many major cities have large wifi hotspots that use wireless cable modem routers. Wireless cable modem routers are the more popular form of Internet sharing nowadays. However, wire routers have not lost their novelty. They are practical for companies that must track and limit their Internet use. Houses with wireless cable routers should ensure they have a password.

Cable modems allow us to connect to the Internet at high speeds. Buying a cable modem router will help give you a fast and reliable Internet connection. But with so many brands available, which should you choose?
Top brands that offer cable modem routers
The most popular and highly rated brand of cable modems is Motorola, which offers the Motorola SURFboard cable modem series. A top rated model hailed by industry experts and users alike is the Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem SB5101. Linksys, with their CM100 Cable Modem, is another quality, top rated brand. 3Com also offers reliable, fast cable modems with their Office Connect External Cable Modem and Home Connect Ext CABLEMODEM 1.1 2-Way.
What to look for in a cable modem router
A cable modem should be fast, reliable, and affordable. Check the cable modem’s transfer speed. A good cable modem should be able to handle high transfer speeds (top rated cable modems can handle transfer speeds of up to 30 to 60 Mbps). Make sure that the cable modem you intend to buy is compatible with your computer’s operating system. Cable Labs is an organization that tests cable modems and makes sure that they are up to the industry’s standard, called DOCSIS. Make sure that your cable modem is CableLabs-certified. Right now, the highest DOCSIS standard is DOCSIS 3.0. Also check customer reviews to see what people have to say about the cable modem’s performance and reliability.
Getting a good cable modem ensures that you can satisfy your need for speed when you connect to the Internet!

There are a number of ways to connect computers to one another or to connect one computer to a local network or to the Internet. A cable modem router is one of them.
What is a cable modem router?
A cable modem router allows access to the Internet just like a basic router does. However, a cable modem router is more efficient and easier to configure because it comes with software that gives access to configuration tables. Cable modem routers can be wired or wireless. Wired cable modems are connected to the computer via cables, while wireless routers connect to computers via radio waves.
How does a modem router work?
A cable modem router works by directing the traffic of messages sent between and within networks, making sure that packets of data are sent between users of one network or from one IP address to another.
A cable modem router makes connecting to the Internet or another network possible. This device adds to productivity especially in large offices or home networks. In the case of wireless routers, thisallows a number of networks to be connected without the hassle of unsightly cords and cables.

A wireless router is a device that is used to gain access to a computer or network without the use of cables and wires. It can function in a wired LAN, a wireless only LAN, or in a mix wired and wireless network.
Network security risks posed by wireless net routers
Your home network can be exposed to risk because signals extend up to 300 meters from your wireless router. This allows individuals in the next room or building to access your wireless network if this is not secure. Other people can enter your network and view your files, copy your email address, passwords and other important information, send spam, and perform other illegal activities through your Internet connection.
Tips to reduce network security risks when using Internet routers
There are ways to reduce your risks, however. First, secure your network with a unique password and change this on a regular basis. Also use wireless encryption which scrambles your data so that only those with the encryption key can read your communications. Avoid connecting to unsecured networks as this allows others to read your communication and possibly gather your passwords.
There are a lot of risks associated with wireless networks. However, you can always use these preventive steps to make sure your network is secure.

Connecting to the Internet has been done two ways in the past: cable modems and dial-up , with the latter being the earlier and slower method of Internet connectivity between the two.
Features of cable modems
Cable modems are a type of network bridge that uses a bidirectional transfer of data through radio frequency channels on cable TV infrastructure because TV networks can often accommodate higher bandwidths. Features include 50 to 60 mbps speed which allows one to download video, music, and other large files in a matter of seconds instead of minutes, as well as the ability to play games and stream videos and movies online.
Features of dial-ups
Dial-up is the older way to connect to the Internet and has long remained in the sidelines since the emergence of cable modems. It is slower and did not allow the simultaneous use of the phone line and the Internet, which means that the Internet connection had to be terminated when someone needed to use the phone. Cable modems are definitely faster than dial-ups but newer innovations such as DSL are emerging technologies that will provide faster connection speeds to Internet users.

There are a lot of published reference materials regarding the use and maintenance of latest technologies in the world of computers today. We all know that computer technology covers diverse topics, thus, explaining everything about the topic will take more than one book. That is why it is better to look for reference books that explain a single topic on computer technology. Say, for instance, reference books about modems.
Whenever I go to bookstores, I always go through the books for dummies to see if there is one "for dummies" topic worth the time to read. I was not surprised when I saw a topic about modems. Well, the book for dummies covers almost every technical topics anyone can think of. So, "Modem for Dummies" is an updated reference material, which features complete infos about the latest advancements and developments in telephony and modem technology. The book is considered a bestseller, since it is a very handy material for those who wish to learn the latest and basic know-hows in modems.
The latest edition of "Modem for Dummies" talks about ready-to-use and practical information one needs in choosing the modem to purchase. The book also discusses what telecommunications software to install and utilize, and most importantly, what to do to have a fast Internet navigation. Moreover, the book also talks about guides and tips about the proper use of telephone and modem systems around the world. I highly recommend the book for those who wish to know more about modems. The book has no hard-to-comprehend jargons and phrases, thus making it an easy read.

What is today's ideal Internet add-on to a MAC or single PC? I only have one latest modem brand in mind, and that is Single Ethernet port ADSL modem. With its non-firewall or NAT feature, Single Ethernet is a great buy if you are looking for a straight connection to the assigned ISP. The modem is an all-out driverless modem device that does not have any compatibility difficulties.
Friday, May 11. 2007
Just like other prime modem devices available in the market today, Single Ethernet's installations is as easy as installing any software in your computer. What you need to do is to plug the modem device into an Ethernet free port and into an ADSL phone line. Remember that the modem has to be configured first with your account settings for ADSL. You can access configuration through a web configuration site that can be seen and used from various Java web browsers.
Thursday, May 10. 2007
Of course, the Single Ethernet port ADSL modem also comes with a number of useful items. The package includes 1 x CAT5 straight cable, a resource Compact Disc, external power adapter, 1 x RJ11 ADSL cable, and the manual installation guide. When you finally install Single Ethernet in your computer, having a fast Internet connection is no longer a problem for you. For modem devices and other helpful computer devices, Ethernet is, no doubt, always on the list of today's E-consumers.

With all the latest modem products available today, its really hard for consumers like me to choose which modem products suit our computer and Internet needs. You see, every time I look or shop for latest modems or Internet accessories, the damn salespersons would blabber about irritating and surreal consumer-friendly features of their modem products. Hey, it's what I really want to hear, since I ask for their products' specs and all. But sometimes, the explanations are too good to be true. It only makes it difficult for me to decide, since I cannot choose which modem to buy.

I agree that cable and DSL fast Internet connections are superb, since they are always "on" or connected. No more hassles from dial-ups and the likes just to browse the net. However, if your connection is wide open, you can be very vulnerable from sucker online users and hackers. Thanks to the latest Motorola SURFboard SB5120, online security is no longer a problem. The modem product not only features an impressive broadband modem connectivity, it is also an effective online security measure.
Monday, May 7. 2007
For an effective online security measure, I suggest you try using the latest Motorola SURFboard SB5120. Also note that the Motorola modem device's installation is just a few simple clicks from your mouse. Unlike other modem products available in the market today, the SB5120 also features both Ethernet and USB connections. Such feature basically allows you to choose which means is best for you to connect the Motorola modem to your pc.

Most people think more of getting a fast internet provider than a good modem. They're right to think so, but hardware is as important as a service provider when it comes to internet connectivity. Plus, a smooth running system and various internet software can further boost an internet connection. They probably regard modems less because of the same features and functions found on almost all modems. A similar modem is the MultiTech MultiModemZPX, and it even has bugs that could bug you to near insanity!

The physical design of this modem would not be something to even slightly consider, for it's an actual internal modem, right? Plus, on some of my internet surfing ventures, this modem gets often disconnected I wonder what the manufacturers were doing when they built this crap! No, I think it's not the fault of your service provider, for a different modem wouldn't give you disconnections as often as this piece of technocrap would! On top of frequent disconnections, it even provides slower connections compared to what your service provider gives. Yes, 'cause I now have a different modem on the computer that formerly had this one in it, and it gives me faster connections, not to mention fewer disconnections!
Friday, May 4. 2007
Now most people think that slow connections are the fault of their service provider. Most often than not, they're absolutely right. But with the MultiTech MultiModemZPX, it would have to be the fault of the developers of this crap! Regardless that you're still on 56K dial-up speed, a different internal 56K modem would provide you with faster connections! Yes, even with the same service provider. So go right on, be a damn fool and try it out yourself. Just to prove my point, go get a different one after testing it out for at least a week or two.

Wireless internet connectivity has pushed manufacturers of modems and handheld digital devices to modify their products for wireless and mobile compatibility. This trend can be seen with the new releases of leading modem manufacturers of wireless internet connection equipment. Yes, even mobile phone developers and manufacturers are trying their hands out on the wireless internet trend! With this, Vodafone, a leading provider of mobile phones, has just released a new 1.8 modem for Macs.
Wednesday, May 2. 2007
Vodafone is a leading manufacturer of mobile phones and other digital handheld devices. With the release of its new 1.8 3G modem, mobile internet surfers are now provided with a better option for their wireless internet musings. Now 3G modems aren't new, but it is relatively a modern means for internet connections since it promotes mobile internet connectivity instead of just wireless internet connections. Yes, this type of internet connection uses cellular networks with the help of wireless internet connectivity than just plain wifi internet connections.
Tuesday, May 1. 2007
With this modem, your Mac would provide you with mobile internet browsing. Mobile internet connectivity is what 3G equipment and network providers are improving on. But the Vodafone Corporation has stated that their new 3G 1.8 modem would promote mobile internet connectivity than just home wireless internet connections. But further developments on 3G platforms would eventually create new dimensions on cyberspace. I think the 3G network providers charge not for the time you spend using their internet service, but for the information you access!

Modern digital technology has made life easier, and it also helps us be more productive in all our ventures. Plus, the gizmos we get from the developments on information technology are also simple to use and highly accessible. But there are some gadgets which actually need highly knowledgeable experts to use, let alone configure. The HTC Wizard, a modem and handheld device in one, is just the gizmo that is so hard to configure you'd need to enrol in a crash course on using it to do just so!
Sunday, April 29. 2007
With the HTC Wizard, you can actually connect yourself to the worldwide web using your laptop, handheld computing device, or even your PDA. Plus, it also supports both bluetooth and USB connectivity, thus it would give you the idea that it is rather simple to configure and use. This is definitely not the case with this crap! You actually need to go through system upgrades, driver compatibility issues, you know - the fuckin' works! But if you are knowledgeable enough to understand the unintelligible gibberish on the documentation which comes bundled with this device, I think you'd have more of a fighting chance to actually see and feel the advantages it could provide you with.
Saturday, April 28. 2007
The HTC Wizard has USB support, which means you can connect it to the USB ports of your laptop or handheld computing device. But you actually need to install a third-party driver so as to access this modem's USB connectivity feature. Plus, you need to have the latest computer operating system so as for it to be automatically configured. You see, with the latest upgrades of operating systems now available, this modem can be automatically detected by the system. In addition, it could then be automatically configured by the same system as well. But the automatic configuration settings are very limited, so you still need to read the documentation that came with this product.

Handheld devices, specifically PDAs, can now access the modern digital world that is the internet. This is done by getting a modem that connects to your handheld device. One such modem is the Thinmodem, a Visor accessory. This modem is very small, but it drains your PDA's batteries since it doesn't have a battery pack of its own. With this, the manufacturers of this device, CardAccess, is shipping a modem application for the Thinmodem. What these dweebs must've thought was that this application could compensate for the life-sucking problem of the damn Thinmodem. What they don't know is that this application even sucks more of your PDA's battery life because this shit is too damn slow!
Thursday, April 26. 2007
With the Browse-It 2.0, you're more likely to end up with a damn lot of system crashes here and there than some other PDA modem! This is because this program is too slow for comfort. Thus, it eats up battery life like a cocksucker who hasn't had a cock up the mouth for about a damn week! The CardAccess dweebs are thinking of the advantages this modem application could provide the users of their device, but I think what they should think more of is getting their modem its own damn battery pack so that there won't be any more unnecessary energy drainage! They're totally warped way up Hendrix's space, if you know what I mean.
Wednesday, April 25. 2007
With their crappy excuse for a highly functional modem application, these people have promised the users of their Thinmodem gizmo an easier and more convenient means of browsing through cyberspace, as much as faster messaging through electronic mail. But by using this program with your Thinmodem-equipped Visor, all you'd ever get are slow messaging and browsing capabilities! Hell, you're better off with the internet site browsing and messaging programs you originally have on your Visor. Always remember that the more you spend time accessing the functions of your Visor, the more battery life you use. Since the Thinmodem doesn't have a battery pack of its own, then what you'll be left with is nothing but muck!
